QME Care

QME Care celebrates success with five finalist nominations and three regional wins at the Great British Care Awards.

QME Care is once again celebrating excellence in care, proudly announcing its latest achievements at the Great British Care Awards. The Kelso-based care home received five finalist nominations across a range of prestigious categories, before walking away with three regional awards at Monday’s glittering ceremony on 10 November in Glasgow.

The dedicated QME Care team were finalists in the categories for Team of the Year, Employer of the Year, Frontline Leader, Workforce Development, and Ancillary Award — a remarkable recognition of the passion, professionalism, and commitment that define their service.

Among the night’s winners were three outstanding members of the QME Care team:

  • Barbara Bertram, who triumphed in the Workforce Development category, was recognised for her exceptional dedication to developing staff potential and creating an inspiring learning culture that raises standards across the organisation. The judges said: Barbra designs diverse CPD programs, from short workshops to mini-trainings, and provide personalised support for staff completing NVQs, including one-to-one guidance throughout. Through support groups and immersive development experiences, staff gain a deeper understanding of clients’ perspectives, fostering empathy, insight, and truly person-centred care.
  • Adam Russell and his Kitchen Team scooped the Ancillary Award of the Year, praised for their creativity, care, and consistency in delivering nutritious, beautifully presented meals that bring comfort, joy, and dignity to residents every day. Judges said: Adam Russell and his exceptional Kitchen Team at QME Care are the heartbeat of the home, delivering not just meals but joy, comfort, and connection. With creativity, compassion, and attention to detail, Adam ensures menus are nutritious, personalised, and beautifully presented, catering to all needs. Their innovative, resident-focused approach transforms mealtimes into memorable experiences, promotes wellbeing, and exemplifies excellence in care, making Adam and his team truly deserving of recognition.
  • Kelly Brown, CEO, was honoured with a Highly Commended Award in the Frontline Leader category. Judges said: Kelly’s humility shines through as she ensures her team receives full credit for their work. Her inspiring achievements in developmental projects reflect her effectiveness as a manager. Grounded yet progressive, she leads by example, fostering growth, collaboration, and recognition, embodying leadership that values teamwork above personal accolades.

Kelly Brown said:

“We are absolutely thrilled and humbled by this recognition. These awards celebrate not only the individuals but the incredible teamwork and spirit that run through QME Care. Every day, our staff go above and beyond to make a difference in residents’ lives — and to see that commitment recognised on a national stage is just fantastic.”

The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence across the care sector, highlighting individuals and organisations who demonstrate outstanding dedication and innovation in delivering care.
