Funding My Care
We understand that arranging care can feel overwhelming, particularly when it comes to understanding how it is funded. At QME Care, we are here to guide and support you through the process, helping you make informed decisions with confidence.
The way care is funded is dependent on your individual circumstances. The first step is usually to contact your local authority to request a care needs assessment. This assessment looks at the level of support required and determines eligibility for care services. A separate financial assessment will then consider your income, savings, and assets to establish whether you are required to contribute towards the cost of your care.
In Scotland, individuals aged 65 and over may be entitled to Free Personal Care and Nursing Care (FPNC). This means that, depending on your needs, the Scottish Government provides a weekly contribution towards the cost of your care. Personal care payments are available to support with everyday needs such as washing, dressing, and mobility, while nursing care payments contribute towards care provided by a registered nurse.
If you are assessed as requiring nursing care, you may receive both the personal care and nursing care payments. These contributions are paid to us directly and reduce the overall cost of care.
Some individuals may still need to contribute towards accommodation and living costs, depending on their financial situation. Others may be required to fully fund their care if their assets are above the threshold set by the local authority.
For those with particularly complex or significant health needs, there may also be eligibility for NHS Continuing Healthcare, where the NHS fully funds the cost of care. This is assessed separately and is based on clinical need.
We understand that funding arrangements can feel complex, but you do not have to navigate this alone. Our experienced team is here to explain your options in a clear and straightforward way, helping you understand what funding you may be entitled to and what costs may apply.
We can also help signpost you to relevant organisations and support services, ensuring you have access to the right advice at the right time.
At QME Care, we believe in being open and transparent, and we encourage you to speak with us early in your journey so we can provide the guidance and reassurance you need.
If you would like to discuss funding in more detail or have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team. We are here to help.
