QME Care, a beacon of person-centred, award-winning specialist nursing care since 1954, celebrated its 70th birthday with a grand celebration on Friday 28th June, as part of the Care Home Open Week. The event was attended by residents, their families, staff, board members, and local community members, including esteemed guests Rachael Hamilton MSP, John Lamont MP, and the Kelso Laddies Association.
The event was a delightful 50s-themed celebration, complete with a BBQ, fun games, and timeless music from 70 years ago. The atmosphere was filled with joy and nostalgia as everyone came together to honour the legacy and future of QME Care.
A special highlight of the day was the burial of a personalised time capsule by one of QME Care’s cherished residents. This poignant moment, representing the collective memories and hopes of the community, truly captured the spirit of QME Care’s dedication to fostering a sense of belonging and preserving the rich history of its residents.
Adding to the excitement, QME Care proudly unveiled its very first, brand-new wheelchair accessible minibus. This minibus will enable residents to enjoy delightful outings, from scenic walks and beach trips to indulging in ice cream delights and savouring meals at local restaurants. The new vehicle symbolises QME Care’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents by creating memorable experiences and promoting inclusivity.
Steven Bailey, Business Manager at QME Care, expressed his gratitude, stating, “We spent a great deal of time fundraising to make the purchase of the minibus possible, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of The Margaret Carlaw Charitable Trust, The Hugh Fraser Foundation, The Bruce Wake Charitable Trust, The Hayward Sanderson Trust, Robert Barr’s Charitable Trust, The James T Howat Charitable Trust, very kind local community members, QME Care Trustees and staff members. We extend a heartfelt thank you for their generosity and for making the purchase of our resident’s new minibus possible.”
The celebration was a testament to QME Care’s enduring commitment to providing exceptional care and creating a vibrant community where residents’ happiness and well-being are paramount. As QME Care looks forward to the future, it remains dedicated to its mission of offering compassionate, individualised care and fostering a nurturing environment for all its residents.
