Angus Armstrong
Chair
After 30 years of service, Angus retired from the position of Chief Executive of the Greenvale Group which is one of the country’s largest suppliers of fresh pre-packed potatoes. As well as executive leadership skills, Angus comes with a strong commercial background having worked with the UK’s leading retailers for many years. Living in Kelso, Angus was a regular visitor to QME Care while his mother Shirley was a resident in Queen’s House during 2022-2023.
Dr Sandy Sutherland
Vice Chair
Sandy was a GP in Midlothian for 30 years before becoming a GP appraiser. While a GP he had a particular interest in care in old age. He was motivated to join the Board following the exceptional care his mother received with QME Care in the last years of her life. Throughout his life he has had an active interest in livestock farming, selling rams at Kelso Ram Sale for many years.
Rachel Jackson
Clinical Matters
Rachel is a retired Occupational Therapist with many years experience working in the field of adult and older peoples’ care. As a Trustee, Rachel takes responsibility for staffing matters and aims to support the continued delivery and development of excellent care to our residents.
Sally Yonge
Finance Matters
Sally joined the Board of Trustees in 2017. Previously an investment manager in Edinburgh and trust department manager for a firm of accountants in Kelso, Sally spent many years working in finance. Recent experience of caring for elderly relatives inspired her to join the Board. Her interests include gardening and she is a Roxburghshire organiser for the charity Scotland’s Gardens.
William Windram
Legal Matters & HR
William is a partner in a solicitor’s firm with offices in Galashiels and Selkirk. William specialises in handling legal issues affecting older adults. William has been a trustee in a number of charities providing support, including housing for older adults.
Finlay Calder, OBE
General Matters
Finlay is a retired Grain Merchant who lives in Berwickshire. He joined the Board of Trustees in January 2023 having been a regular visitor to Kelso whilst his wife Elizabeth was in residence within Evanthea House. Finlay is an energetic fund raiser for all good causes including QME, Parkinson’s, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and also the Ukraine.
Dr Gillian Arbuckle
Clinical Matters
Gillian worked for 31 years as a GP partner in Galashiels until her retirement in 2020. Gillian was a GP trainer, and secretary of the Galashiels Local Medical Committee for 20 years as part of her career. Gillian was involved with Dementia care as part of her work, and has first hand experience of caring for a loved one at home.
