Wellness & Engagement
At QME Care, we recognise that meaningful activity, social connection, and emotional wellbeing are just as important as physical care. Our dedicated Wellbeing Team plays a vital role in supporting residents across Queen’s House, Murray House, and Evanthea House, ensuring that every individual has access to opportunities that enhance quality of life and promote overall wellbeing.
Our approach is based on a psychosocial model of care, focusing on both group and one-to-one support. This enables us to provide person-centred psychological and emotional support tailored to individual needs, preferences, and abilities. The team works closely with residents to promote health, happiness, independence, and a sense of purpose in daily life.
Our Activities Programme
Our Activities & Wellbeing Coordinators plan and deliver a varied and engaging programme of activities designed to appeal to a wide range of interests. A new programme is issued fortnightly, ensuring residents always have something to look forward to and can choose activities that suit their mood, energy, and preferences.
Popular regular activities include hobby groups, reminiscence sessions, arts and crafts, pamper sessions, music and movement, and seasonal events that reflect the time of year. We also hold our monthly Sunday Service, which provides a calm and reflective opportunity for residents who wish to take part.
Activities are designed to be inclusive, flexible, and enjoyable, encouraging participation while always respecting individual choice. Whether residents prefer group activities or quieter one-to-one time, our team ensures there are meaningful options available for everyone.
One-to-One & Specialist Support
For residents who require additional or more individualised support, we have a dedicated Creative Therapist who works on a one-to-one basis. Referrals are made directly by our nursing team, ensuring that support is targeted and appropriate. The Creative Therapist develops personalised therapy plans designed to help residents express themselves in ways that support emotional wellbeing and communication, particularly where verbal expression may be more difficult.
Alongside this, our Resident Companion provides valuable one-to-one and small group engagement. This includes cognitive stimulation, social interaction, and support with hobbies or simple companionship such as sharing a coffee and conversation. These moments of connection play an important role in reducing isolation and supporting emotional wellbeing.
We are also supported by a team of volunteer companions who are carefully matched with residents based on shared interests. These relationships help to build meaningful connections and further enhance wellbeing and social engagement.
Themed Weeks & Special Events
Throughout the year, our Wellbeing Team comes together to plan and deliver themed activity weeks across the home. These events bring energy, variety, and fun into daily life, while also encouraging participation from residents, relatives, and staff across QME Care.
Recent themed weeks have included Seaside Week, Funfair Week, Fashion Week, Boston Tea Party, Campfire Week, and Winter Wonderland. These events create shared experiences and lasting memories, helping to strengthen community spirit within the home.
Outings & Community Connections
We believe that staying connected to the wider community is an important part of wellbeing. Our residents have access to their very own minibus, allowing us to arrange regular outings and trips outside of the home.
During the warmer months, we enjoy frequent excursions to local garden centres, scenic drives, cafes, community events, and outings for meals. These trips provide residents with the opportunity to enjoy fresh air, new surroundings, and meaningful social experiences beyond the home environment.
Outings are carefully planned to ensure they are accessible, enjoyable, and suited to the interests and abilities of those attending. They are an important part of supporting independence, wellbeing, and continued engagement with everyday life.
Our Commitment to Wellbeing
At QME Care, we are committed to supporting the whole person – not just their care needs. Our Wellbeing Team works continuously to ensure that every resident has access to activities, companionship, and experiences that bring joy, comfort, and meaning to their day.
Whether through group activities, creative therapies, one-to-one support, or community outings, our focus is always on promoting dignity, happiness, and quality of life.
